To help promote the mathematical research environment in Alabama, Drs. F. A. Lewis of The University of Alabama and William Vann Parker of Auburn University established a lecture series attached to the AACTM meeting to honor a mathematician in Alabama. Another motivation for the Lewis-Parker Lecture is to allow faculty members at undergraduate institutions to know about individuals and research existing at graduate institutions within the state to better advise their undergraduates about options for graduate school.
